Why would the Democratic leadership announce the date of a hearing via a Republican senator? To be fair, McCain said the White House didn't "request" the specific date.

They are not whining about Patraeus the general, they are outraged that this general is being forced to be a political tool of the republican party instead of being allowed to do his job to protect this country without political interference...

What the liberals are forgetting is that it's no surprise that this report will be authored by the White House. They're getting their panties in a bunch all for nothing. It was the Democrats who passed the law stating: "The President shall submit a second report to the Congress, not later than September 15, 2007"<a class="user" href="http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=110_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ028.110.pdf">http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=110_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ028.110.pdf</a>The White House and Congress are both working to get General Patraeus to testify before a committee or panel of congressmen.
