thinkprogress.org — Last Thursday, Gen. Peter Pace told reporters, “Blackwater has been a contractor in the past with the department and could certainly be in the future.” The next day, that future was already here. The Pentagon had issued a new list of contracts, including one worth $92 million to Presidential Airways, the “aviation unit of parent company Blackwater.

That would solve the nuclear problem.

The day has already come. There are more private contractors in Iraq than there are soldiers.

This may not mean anything to anyone but I wanted to get some information out there.I took a look at my old LES (pay stub) from when I was in the military, did some math and came up with this estimate. For a married E-4 soldier (65% of the military is made up of enlisted between E-2 and E-6). 92million could pay for 5,679 soldiers for one year. Now this doesn't factor in supplies or food, but a married soldier does make extra money for housing. I couldn't factor that in because it changes from zip code to zip code.Take this estimate and find out how many employees Black Watter has. This is only one contract.

Blackwater has been one of the three corporations inducted into Corporate Accountability International's 2008 Corporate Hall of Shame alongside Blackwater and Wal-Mart! Over 10,000 people voted for the worst corporate offenders of the year, and ADM came in 1st place for killing unarmed Iraqi civilians, hiring paramilitaries trained under military dictatorships, and using its close political and financial ties with the Bush Administration to secure lucrative contracts. To see the full results and to nominate the other corporations for the dubious honor check out:<a class="user" href="http://www.stopcorporateabuse.org/cms/page1651.cfm">http://www.stopcorporateabuse.org/cms/page1651.cfm</a>
