thinkprogress.org — On April 11, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced that tours of duty for the Army would be extended from 12 months to 15 months, effective immediately. In exchange for the extensions, soldiers would receive at least a year home between deployments. But now, one battalion has learned it will be going to Iraq after just 9 months at home.

They signed up to "protect America". The didn't sign up to "police Iraq".

Did anyone not see this coming. I've also heard rumors of extending tours by another 3 months...

It's either that or the draft, which is worse? Bring our troops home now, scumbags!

@KaiserSome of us have friends and family in the military and hate to see them get jerked around by bulls**t like this. Understandably, you have neither, since your douche.

schmonsThey gave him THREE DAYS NOTICE? That just doesn't happen. You have pre-deploment training, counseling, etc etc. Somehow I doubt the validity of your statement....

EntropyManArmed Forces Press ServiceWASHINGTON - Defense Department officials today announced the next 10 Army brigade combat teams to deploy to Iraq to replace units currently operating there.(You may not be able to access this w/o a password. I apologize if this is the case, but it should work.)http://www.army.mil/-news/2007/05/08/3030-dod-announces-army-units-up-for-next-iraq-troop-rotation/You have to understand how frustrating it is when people take any opportunity to slam on the admin for things that are just.....normal. Yes, Bush managed to turn this war into a disaster from April 10, 2003 on, so slam him for that all you want (because you should). But this? Come on now.

And if we impeach bush, who comes to power? Cheney, who is probably a worse choice for the job. Then we have to impeach him. It'd be a smarter political move imo for the democrats to do nothing and leave Bush in power in order improve their chances for winning the election. Or else it just creates a messy situation . . . impeaching two people.
