I'm also confused. I remember using PayPal's virtual debit card years ago.

Wabbi - Not true, happened to a friend of mine twice, didn't have to pay a dime. He just seems to get a phone call after every purchase over a certain amount to be sure it was him.

If you get a good bank account and just take general precautions then you'll be fine. I use my Visa Debit card all the time online, but only at reputable sites.

Just don't use it if you plan to do in-store-pickup when buying from CircuitCity.com. They will ask for your credit card with the number you used for the purchase. I used my Discover card's one-time-use number to order something from CircutyCity.com and chose in-store-pickup to save on shipping. When I went to the store to pickup, the cashier ask for my credit card. I gave her my card. She said the number didn't match. I told her it was a one-time-use number. She said "what time what number?"
