Was a great DE for the Tigers; I still remember the smackdown he put on Jason White in the '03 NCG.First Mike V, now this. It's a hard month to be an LSU Tiger
Makaras,Ignoring the obvious fact that you were dug down because you were making light of the death of an innocent human being, lets look at your actual statements about football:"...and is smiting the Greedy Patriots for taking a Page out of the New York Yankees' play book by bringing in as much talent from outside the team to sustain it's championship strengthed team???"Honestly, you must know absolutely nothing about football. Big difference between the Yankees and the Patriots: in football, there is a SALARY CAP. No team is allowed to spend more than a certain amount (this year I believe it's around $110 mil). NO ONE spends much below this amount. The Colts, over the past years, have been extremely close to this limit, in order to keep a core of superstar players sustained. The Patriots, on the other hand, played last season significantly below this mark. This year, they got some INCREDIBLE deals (Randy Moss for a 4th round draft pick and about $3 mil the first year, some of their other receivers, Adalius Thomas in free agency, etc). They're not spending 2-3x as much as other football teams, they shopped around and got some awesome deals. If you can't recognize that, it's because you're biased. If your gripe is simply that they picked up more talent, then you're an idiot, and even more biased (and maybe nervous, about how Tom Brady may stack up against Peyton Manning in the statistics after finally having receivers above high-school caliber). And you're also an idiot for making light of this guy's death. So, all in all, f**k you.
"What is it about sports, that even when it isnt the main focus of the article, that brings out the assh**es on Digg?"Balance of power. In high school, most Diggers were ostracized (at best) by the popular jocks and built an intellectual disdain for them because they "got the girls", "got a pass", or made fun of said Digger. Now, in "internet land" - geeks rule and athletes are easy targets because they are "stupid" and the poster has anonymity. One hard-earned dollar via PayPal to the first Digger to spout their stupidity in front of the Patriots defensive line.
I tried to drop the free agency thing, because you obviously don't get it, but since you can't let it go (and deftly sidestepped my mention of our homegrown talent and decided to throw dick jokes at a girl instead), I'll retype my long paragraph from before:There is nothing inherently wrong about getting players from the free agency. What's wrong is spending significantly more on players than any other team. The Yankees (and the Red Sox too, so you understand this is not a biased statement) spend FAR more money on players than the average team. It doesn't matter where they come from, what matters is that they have the means to stack their team, and have an unfair advantage over teams with significantly smaller wallets. They take advantage of a s**tty system, and while it produces championships, it is immoral. The Patriots have no such advantage. Their personnel is made up of experienced decision-makers and shrewd bargainers who get the most out of what they're offered (which is the same as every other team). They get bargain prices on older players (Seau and Dillon being great examples) because few other people want them, and they've built a system that can run off experienced but physically diminished players. Their staff has done a great job managing their allowed funds, and has given them an edge in a perfectly fair and balanced system. The two are incomparable. You may continue this argument if you'd like, but at no point in your posting have you come close to saying something worthwhile, so unless I see an actual intelligent response out of you (as opposed to one referencing limp dicks), I'm done. Looking forward to the season! :)
Well you have made me a Liar, you post made it up just as i was logging out for the night.... And after reading what you have put, I think i have figured you out. That said let me see if i can't sort this out for both of us.The bulk of your argument is that Free agency is not bad. That through the utilization of the salary cap (which is a set maxim which no team can exceed, without severe penalties from the league) the patriots are able to get older players and utilize them within their system. All of which i agree with you on. you then go on to say that baseball is in fact not like football (duh). And hinge your argument on the concept that I have no idea that in Baseball there is no salary cap (at least in the terms it exists in the NFL), that because baseball's cap is so different there are no parallels. This is not what i am saying. My statement is that because the Patriots use the Free Agency market to pick up these older guys (that developed within another teams system), are in fact hurting themselves. That they, like the Yankees, have hurt the ability for drafted players to flourish within the Patriot's system, because the spots they would fill in for is being blocked by an aged veteran who is on contract. They also have to spend more on these guys which causes NE to be thin (as they can't spend money that puts them over cap) on solid back ups. I would think you could at very least agree with me here as they needed to go out in Free Agency to spend a good chunk of cash on Thomas. Finally that by continuing to bring in these Free Agency guys are all but a temporary bandage, and if done long enough the patriots will come to a point where the team won't be able to keep these key pieces of their team together (i look to it being when Laurence Maroney goes to get his real contract), and as a result will have to cut someone's contract at the expense of the team. And finally, I know i will have my ticket for Nov. 4th i will be sure to put an extra one away in memory of this drawn out bull s**t of a thread that perhaps 2 people in the world give a s**t about....
I agree with everything you said, except for the fact that they're hurting themselves in the free agency. I believe that drafting these older players gives the newer players people to learn from and look up to, so that once the older players' few years are up (or get injured, which happens all too often if you follow the Patriots), the younger players will be right there, eager to fill in and prove themselves.Unlike our other stuff, this is not something that can be argued; it's a prediction on how the Patriots' decisions will play out, and either one of us could be right. We'll have to wait and see. Until then, good argument, and I'm also looking forward to November 4th.
