bradblog.com — In a dramatic late-night press conference, Calif. Secretary of State Debra Bowen decertified, and then recertified with conditions, all but one voting system used in the state. Her decisions, following her unprecedented, independent "Top-to-Bottom Review" of all certified e-voting systems, came just under the wire to meet state requirements.

I hope so. Without tangibility, your vote is at best a possibility—at worst an illusion._

Paper ballots have their problems too (Water). I think "Paper" ballots should be made out of a water resistant material like Tyvek.

They had an independent group study the most accurate way to vote in Florida after all the drama there. What they found was that the electronic voting machines failed to record votes at a rate 600% higher than the paper ballots at a cost of over 5 times the paper ballot system and failed to provide a system for reliable audits. So you're saying you want a system that is way more expensive, impossible to recount, and way less accurate because it is faster and doesn't use paper? Voting without accuracy defeats the purpose doesn't it? Oh, and next time you buy a car ask the state for a e-title because you don't want to waste a piece of paper. When your kid is born tell them you'd like the electronic birth certificate. You can put it next to the e-deed for your house or the e-will you filed with the county clerk.

Well done Debra. I'm glad she came through on this promise she made during elections. Also, from her wikipedia page:"Bowen is known for her pioneering work using the Internet to open government to computer users worldwide. In 1993, her first year in elected office, she successfully passed AB 1624, landmark legislation putting all of California's bill information on the internet."If you want to see the fruits of this: http://leginfo.public.ca.gov

Notice how the republicons are now trying to split up California's electoral votes. Republicons can't win unless they lie, cheat and steal.

They weren't able to conceal them this long though. The problem is that those who showed their fellow americans that the flaws existed were labeled conspiracy theorists, tinfoil-hat wearing jerks, and left-wing nut cases!Just look at who was right in the end though....

in a true audit i would think they would request the voter copy to match. the issues in ohio is what scares me.

Also, aren't absentee votes ONLY counted when the 'real' votes (placed by people at polling places on election day) are within a certain % of each other and too close to call?In this case your vote might be very well counted accurately, but what about the votes counted by machines that lead to the 'too close to call' thing? If those voting machines were tampered with your vote won't make things right, even if it is accurate.
