I was actually sitting in on the meeting where Sony was discussing the UX series in relation to the PSP2. From my notes:Add more HDD space - that's why it didn't sell!Up the screen size some please - that must be why it doesn't sell...Screw it - just make tablet-pc sized - Who cares about battery life right?Don't forget a touch screen (copying Nintendo has always worked well for us in the past after all)Oooh ooh! And let's make it big enough to use DVDs instead of UMDs, but take it one step further and put them on Bluuuuuu-Raaaaaaaaycer(tm)(c)(R)!!1Of course, we'll change the discs slightly from the standard Blu-Ray disks so consumers can't play them in their PS3 and their PSP2..Let's not forget it will need attachments - the stage has already been set to make the PSP2 the Inspector Gadget or the portable 'gaming' world. We'll need GPS attachments and Cameras dammit! (People don't already have those on their phones after all) and it must play music (another thing people do not already have on their phones). Stick in a few slots for proprietary memory card formats and we've got a real winner here. We'll sell a PSP2 briefcase - or an attache case if you will - to carry the huge 'portable' and its many many attachments.I can just see the money rolling in now. Did I leave anything out? ...whuhh? Oh- oh yeah games, yeah we'll have those....
And yet the DS will always have better games, a better designed system, and about 3 times the sales.Don't you have another Sony/Nintendo thread to screw up.
>>lets just say it adds $100 to the price. $299 for the PSP2 vs $129 for the DS Lite. Not like you still can't buy the non-HDD version. . . Most likely, there will be a price drop on the current PSP to $149 and they will have the PSP+HDD for $300-350.Currently, the handheld market seems to be large enough for both the PSP and DS, and they have vastly different capabilities and strengths (I have both). And both consoles are incredibly strong sellers (~18 million for the PSP and over ~25 million for the DS before the holiday seasons). However, the PSP+HDD should confront the problem with the PSP as a multimedia device being the lack of storage space. Most likely the PSP will also get a long rumored redesign with the addition of the HDD, perhaps they could reduce the bulk.
"maybe even some other features that are doing well elsewhere, like motion sensitivity"motion sensitivity could be bad. think about it from this perspective: you're on a road trip just playing. oh look, you're finally winning against the end boss and about to beat the game (finally) and then the car hits a BUMP which causes something in the motion sensitivity of the portable game system to go off and now you're dead. game over.motion sensitivity on the home systems makes sense cause the ground won't jumble you around. unless there's an earthquake, but if you're still playing when an earthquake happens...you're either stupid or hardcore. depending on how you want to look at that scenario.anyways, back on topic. the whole "article" is speculation. a hard drive in the PSP would be awesome but until I see it on the shelves, I'm not going to hold my breath on this one.
It has shipped 18 mil. My best buy has sold very few? Why? Because they play the games and realize. This sucks. (From a person who wanted a psp until i played it. Also a ps2 owner)

Have you ever held a 80GB iPod? It's only 5.5 ounces.

So just because it can render more polygons a second makes up for the fact we don't use it for anything but playing portable media?
