atariage.com — Atari was set to market the Jaguar with a $3 million advertising budget, a telephone support line, and promised support from over 20 third party developers. However, retailers and the media were still skeptical that Atari could deliver quality software and keep all of its promises.

"I've heard this 'difficult to develop for' argument sooooo many times it's pathetic and not just in reference to Sony. In of itself is is certainly *not* the reason average consumers avoid buying a system. Period."No, but if developers don't develop for a system - either because of high costs, difficulty, or both, they'll go elsewhere - and so will the buyers. Witness Square-Enix's announcement yesterday: the most popular Japanese game series (Dragon Quest) was widely expected to be on the PS3. We all know how *that* turned out.

i totally got one of those for christmas... and i remember asking why we didnt get a snes. the games for the jaguar werent that great, and the controller was huge, in fact, i think it was almost the size of the duke. i remember my parents were telling us how awesome it'll be based on the fact that its atari. i think something we can all relate to is my parents were basing this on the fact that they had video games, we had a colecovision with the atari add on in the early 80, and i think that influenced them a tad. by going with a brand they knew. i just remember thinking the damn thing sucked ass, i'd still take that colecovision over a jaguar any day.

Sega bested the Nintendo with the Genesis? What crack are you smoking? They were in a damn dead heat for years until Sega bailed out.Revise your estimations, pushing Sega back from generation dominance to generation stalemate."The Saturn was based on esoteric hardware that was difficult to develop for."The Saturn was based on esoteric hardware that was easy to develop for but relied on mostly sprite-based games instead of polygons."Sega released the console six months before it was ready in order to get the jump on the Playstation. None of the partners were ready, thus the library suffered."Didn't Sega release the system a YEAR earlier, like the Xbox 360 and the PS2? We know at least one of these systems won for their generation."Sony priced the console at an incredible $499 & $599."It's 410 and 599 in Japan."The Wii is $249 and the XBox 360 is $399. Sony is the most expensive competitor in this generation by a full $100."Not in Japan. It's more expensive by 11 dollars overseas."The PS3 is based on esoteric hardware that is difficult to develop for."Funny, so was the PS2.

Please read me out and think about this before you digg me down. For the past month the majority of articles on Digg about the PS3 have been negative, even the wildly inaccurate and inappropriate like this one. Why? Why do these negative articles about the PS3 reach front page and the only articles you see about the X360 and Wii are glowing fanboy positive reviews?I really don't believe there is that much user hatred towards Sony. I'm lucky enough to own all three systems and out of them the X360 has the best online experience, Wii has the best overall "fun factor" and the PS3 has the best overall media center and future capabilities (plus the PS3 games look just as amazing as the current gen of X360 games.) Each system does what it does well with a few hiccups for each. So why the PS3Hatred? Do the top users on this site really work for a PR firm that works for MSFT or Nintendo? I just don't get all this hate people, it's useless energy. There's so much of it that it starts to make me suspicious of the reason behind it. Is it just mob mentality, or is there something else driving it? Buried as lame.

This is a lame comparison! Everyone knows that the Atari Jaguar was a lot of promise as a 64-bit system but the problem was the games sucked. They looked worse than most Sega Genesis games and played horribly. I don't see any correlation what so ever in this article to the PS3 other than the fact that they both use parallel processing. But you know what that's the way all technology is going. Dual core, quad core etc. I don't think parallel processing is a drawback. The article is accurate, but the digg SPIN on this title is totally inaccurate.

LOLI also beleive is a lame comparison. There seem to be some anti ps3 campaign going on right now...The Jaguar did not have the same costumer base than the PS3 has. PS3 is backward compatible, there are tons of games coming in either retail form or digital download form, Gran Turismo in HD alone worth owning a PS3. most 360 games are boring, Gear of wars UI interface is horrible plus its a third person shooter.. who play third person shooter in 2006 ??? GoW TV commercial mislead the gamers. that game really sucks. Everyone i know who bought that game returned it. Check Ebgames if you don't beleive me. last time i checked there were tons of used GoW on Amazon..Get the PS3 ppl, you won't be disapointed..

Sony has had some shady dealings recently and we're apparently not the type to forgive so easily. If they were to fail on some level that would be a pretty big wake up call to any other companies thinking of going down the same path of customer abuse.

I have always been a huge Sony fan. From their camera's to the 55 inch LCD I have in my living room. I'm just getting frustrated by the recent path they've taken to get their gaming hardware out. Sony has been showing signs of "big-headedness" (is that a word?) Pushing Blu-ray reminds me how they tried to convince me to buy all my movies in UMD format for my PSP. While I understand that the quality and capacity is greater than HD-DVD, its still makes me feel uneasy, not confident enough to make a $600 investment.I believe its all coming down to which systems have the best games. Back in the PS1 days, they dominated the market cause there really was nothing to compare it to. They coasted hard with PS2 and still had all the good games...the second Xbox started sharing licenses they started in a downward trend. Now you were dividing the market share between the people who wanted new and pretty vs. the people that were die-hard loyalists. When you stretch out the [gaming] community that much...people start jumping ship. Then you get the Wii who goes a complete different route and segments the "on-the-fencers" even more by spending a portion of their gaming cash.I want to like the PS3 so bad, but there are too many signs telling me to wait it out.
