Here's your 20%PS3 Owner Refunded (Without Return) for Missing Other OSApril 8th, 2010 at 9:38 am -Retailer Amazon has offered a partial refund to a European PS3 owner following his complaint about the removal of the console?s ?Other OS? feature. Firmware 3.21 infamously removed the ability to install other Operating Systems (such as Yellow Dog Linux) on the PlayStation 3. Though the feature was widely unused by the majority of PS3 gamers, many were angered by Sony?s audacity to remotely disable an original PS3 feature. One gamer has come up trumps, citing European law to earn a partial refund. That?s a partial refund from Amazon without returning their PS3. Said gamer is NeoGAF Forum moderator Iapetus, who cited European law to argue that his original 60GB console, which was considerably out of warranty and Amazon?s 30-day guarantee, no longer operated as advertised. The online retailer?s policy was to offer a refund weighing in at approximately 20 per cent of the console?s original value. Amazon responds:
Why not? He exploited the OtherOS feature in a way that enabled piracy. Sony are losing money on this system as it is. They aren't about to let it become as widely hacked as the XBox360 (though that might not be such a bad idea - MS are doing OK).This was always the risk with allowing Linux on the console. This ensures it's not a mistake any console manufacturer is ever going to make again. Thanks George.
"It should be noted that in European law responsibility is placed on the retailer and not the manufacturer. This cost will most likely be passed over to Sony and if such refunds get out of hand, Sony may have no other option than to reinstate ?Other OS? or instead take legal action to prove that they are not acting outside of the law." from the article. So the costs might be passed to Sony.
Kinda getting off-topic, but 500GB hard drives can be found for <$60 if you wait for deals. You could even swap the drive back and forth to keep your current stuff separate, if you wanted.
You never listed requirements, you merely said "Spoken like someone who has never created a web page"I also run one on my PC but Bell's router won't redirect port 80 to my PC...And I still hate CSS. Just put it in the damn page.
I've read your first sentence four times now, and it still doesn't make much sense. Grammar and punctuation would go a long way in making your words intelligible. You don't need to put "inferior" in quotes -- it's a fact that the Wii is essentially a last-generation system; ergo, it *is* inferior. Nobody said that everyone hates the Wii; I don't know where you got that. Also, I seriously doubt that there are a lot (see what I did there?) of "ps3-owning of wii haters on here that secretly hide a wii under their bed and play wii sports when they are tired of their hum-drum fps and need a fun break from the monotony."The Wii, while fun, is not a system for a serious gamer; it simply lacks the mature games. I'd love to have a Wii, but I know that I wouldn't play it enough to justify spending more than $100 on it. And finally, your comment highlights what most people suspect about the Wii: that Wii owners take it out on rare occasion to take a little break and play Wii Sports.

Because, most of the time you have to actually return the object you bought to get your money back.

No. The "Other OS" feature was never put in the Slim PS3.

Well I'm screwed, anyway - I bought mine from Woolworths on launch day.

...and it's even worse in Britain, since they just switch to £, which is stronger still.
