I wonder if this means we can get some benchmarks going and see what kind of computer the PS3 would equate to. They should at least be able to get spec running right?

"256MB XDR Main RAM (much much much faster then normal ram)"Sure it might be a gazillion times faster, but since there's only 256 mb of it's gonna be swapping all the time to the hard disk with a modern linux distribution and a heavy-weight GUI like Gnome or KDE.And no it's not 512 if the other 256 are in the GPU.

Probably not a lot since I doubt the current PPC linux builds use anything else than the core of the cell, which is basically like a G5 chip. Let's wait a few months to see to what use all the extra power can be put.

If you are installing Linux on the system, that wasn't created specifically for the console, then my guess is that it does have complete access to the hardware: e.g. memory addresses, GPU and storage, otherwise you wouldn't be booting anything.

@carpespasm: You do know that the PS3 might make an excellent *frontend* for Mythtv right? It doesn't have to do all the work, just the displaying.
