engadget.com — Everybody knows the story about those campers out in Burbank that have been waiting for days for the PS3...well it seems like it Best Buy wants to make this launch as painful for customers as the xbox 360 launch was a year ago.

"Why in the hell would anybody wait in line for days to buy a freakin' game system anyway?"eBay.

@Nobi-WanThat's the problem with any speculation. It also depends on how well you market it on ebay though.

in a world where were more and more isolated by the technology we use, what experience is better for the socially isolated gamer than the rare physical contact with people just like them? sure, you'll run into these types of folks when playing online, but how many other events will ever physically put so many interested people in one place? Same thing applies to concert tickets. You get to meet people who care about the things you do with the same level of dedication, even if it's something as silly as video games. I camped for the PS2 for a night and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a group of random people. It doesn't compare to the Night of Race and Class Harmony in Pittsburgh when we won last year's Superbowl, but it's close.

then don't sell high demand merchandise that attracts that type of crowd... wait a few months for the supply chain to fill up when you can stock lots of product. Basically the stores are running a "lottery" for the hot new toy of the season. They can't be upset some people don't have money to pay on ebay, but have time to wait patiently in line to be the first to get their turn to buy. IF the stores were serious about selling to fans, they'd just pass out numbered tickets to the campers and tell them to go home... then give the consoles to those who already stood in line once.... but that never happens.. stores have no respect for the psychotically-loyal customers anymore.

@zeero:Okay, let's say 1,000 for the sake of argument. There are 168 hours in a week. That's an hourly wage of five dollars and 95 cents to sit outside in the cold and all day in the heat, for 7 days. Wowwww.

"gjd131"I'm sure the ring will cost less than that of PS3.

As of closing time last night, there were approximately 8 people waiting for the PS3 at my local Best Buy....I'm surprised they haven't been kicked off, since Best Buy apparently has a policy of not letting people stay more than a day ahead of time...
