I have a 1st gen U.S. PS2, works perfectly. I also have a 1st gen Japanese PS2, which also works perfectly. Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but almost all of my friends have PS2s, none of which have reliability issues, except maybe some movies don't play on it?Some of you mentioned that this is not news at all, because the PS2 is way cheaper than the 360. Well do you see the Gamecube outselling the 360? It's even cheaper than the PS2. And also under the same logic, does that mean that the DS is outselling the PSP only because it's cheaper? It's not that simple. This is good news for Sony because it shows Playstation brand is extremely strong (Unlike what it seems on Digg). People with PS2s will naturally adopt and upgrade to a PS3, unless there are compelling reasons to switch to a 360 or the Wii instead. Which means that even if the PS3 doesn't draw all the casual gamers at launch, it is going to have longevity and staying power.
its all about the games...i mean, why would the DS outsell the PSP? Cheaper, and more games that you actually want...instead of 3 on the 360: Oblivion, GRAW and Fight Night.
" I do however think the 360 will outsell the PS3 quite easily once Halo 3 finally arrives"It probably will, however, the ps2 will outsell both of them because it will have FFXII on it.
I wonder if the price point for the ps2 in combination of cheaper priced games has anything to do with it...or could it be that the availability of playing imports with slight modification could have a hand in it. Though i do agree with the question about the possibility of counting in replacements...
this sort of thing seems to happen when one console is $200 more than the other one, so, my take, as of right now Playstation 2 : Xbox 360 :: Xbox 360 : Playstation 3
