I am a physician. This is a real study, published in a very reputable medical journal (BMJ). It's also from 1999. This was a big deal when it first came out--my colleagues were all passing copies of the article around. I presented this paper as my very last journal club article when I finished my doctorate degree in interdisciplinary life science in 2002.
