dedoimedo.com — "PCLinuxOS 2009.1 is a superb distro. It's very well made. In particular, the Gnome edition is the crown jewel of this release, with great stability, fresh looks, and tons of excellent programs across a broad range of sections"

Nobody has said 'open sores' here yet. Strawman much?

Who needs the Win32 codecs? ffmpeg decodes every common audio and video format and even many uncommon formats. ffmpeg is used by VLC, Xine, MPlayer, etc.VLC also has no problems playing DVDs as long as the CSS decryption library is installed and it usually is if VLC is installed through its own repo.

I thing that Mint includes some multimedia stuff that PCLOS doesn't include.

Yet another ugly distro. this person clearly has no taste as this distro always looks like it was made by a 15 year old in 2001

PCLInuxOS - what a patronizing name for a GNU/LInux distro. It's the OS for WIndows dummies who are clueless and scared about GNU/Linux. I'm all for alternative OS's (I use openSUSE 11.1) but this OS is just plain idiotic in its design and integration.

I actually clicked this link since I just installed this yesterday. Just so you know, it does have EXT4I had some problems with it, but it *might* have just been a bad burn of the disk. When I went with the default EXT3, it worked just fine. I had some other little quirks on the disk as well, so like I said, might have just been a bad burn.So far, I *really* like this distro

As stated, it's not a "Linux thing", it's a "copyright/digital rights/legal thing". When you get a copy of Windows or Mac OSX, they package the license that they bought (and passed the cost on to you).If these things came pre-packaged, they'd have to charge you. Since it's a free (as in beer) operating system, you have to install that yourself as well as assume the legal risks yourself. Keeps "the man" off the distributor's backs.
