dailytechnobabble.com — It has been over one year since my first experience running Microsoft's *supposed* next generation OS and boy have things not changed. As Microsoft continues to waste time trying to force Windows Vista on a much more educated public other alternatives have been doing nothing but chewing away at their long held lead in the desktop OS market.

I'll pass on the hardware vendor lock. Plus, if I want to run a unix, Linux will do just fine thanks.

Well, for all of those that thought that it was all just Microsoft bashing, looks like Microsoft will be releasing YET ANOTHER performance and stability update this week. http://www.news.com/8301-13860_3-9815106-56.html I sincerely hope that this one finally solves all of the problems that Vista has. I'm honestly not a Microsoft basher, but it's sort of ridiculous that I have to order new machines with Windows XP, which is going to require an upgrade to Vista anyway in a few years when Microsoft stops releasing patches for it, simply because Vista is too unreliable to distribute at the moment. It will be very nice if I can finally resume getting Vista preinstalled, so I don't have to deal with all of these problems anymore. Having said that, it is patently absurd that Microsoft thinks that it's acceptable to wait a year to fix performance and stability issues on their 'premiere' OS.

Allow me to clarify. These laptops that are infected are students' personal laptops. In other words, I have no "jurisdiction" over them, and even if I did, there would be certain impracticalities to managing them. Now the 400-ish University staff and faculty machines that I manage *knocks on wood* are locked up tight, and clean as a whistle, thank you very much (all running XPSP2). I'll forgive your insult, since It was my negligence that did not give detail.
