As an Oregon resident (pronouced Or-eh-Gun, mind) this is indeed a very cool thing. I travel that highway often and the lights there, huge arrays of flood lights, could easily be 100% powered from their exposure. Go Oregon!
"The wonderful maxx light rail... Some one is assaulted on that train EVERY SINGLE DAY."Its MAX, neohomer, and your statement above is not true, or even close to true.
This is a giant step backwards. Why not tear down the power hungry, light polluting highway lights and install self contained, solar powered LED/reflector delineators in the highway? They get 100% of their power from the sun and don't blot out the stars.See them here:http://www.astucia.co.uk/catalog_category.aspx?cat ...Some friend of some highway department official must be installing the solar power system. Highway lighting is a waste of energy and tax dollars. Not to mention a major cause of light pollution.

Seconded. $1.3 million for $6700/year return is insane for a bankrupt state...
