You mean "distribution", right?

Linux is opensource, all money Oracle spends on it can only be a good thing.Since the "oracle distro" will probabily run gnome/kde or some other software other distros use everybody is going to benefit.

most dbas already have a hard enough time remember all the optimizations you can do. at least co-located ones. great oracle support is rare, i turn to the guys on efnet #oracle for that. good oracle support is also limited, people tend to specialize and learn on the job. frankly, anyone who is only semi-competent in database seems to prefer mysql instead. no offense to the mysql guys, if anything it speaks to the power of the software...

It could also mean a pre-configured turnkey disto.Drop in a disk, configure hardware and network opts, install takes care of making the DB and OS play nice.Considering that an Oracle license can be 10-100x's the cost of the OS and hardware it runs on, and consider the PITA of getting Oracle up and running, this could save a huge amount in labor costs.

You are right.Just think of the hell that virus writers have to go through. Trying to get your shellcodes to work on all of those different distros has got to be a pain. And then to add insult to injury, some people even want to use some crazy distro like yellowdog, I mean that doesn't even speak Intel. Some people. It would be so much easier if everybody just used windows

for a laugh -- you know what would be a riot -- Oracle adopting Open Darwin ....

I've already started to migrate from Suse to Gentoo.10.0 Retail Suse is a POS.. Very disappointing. The learning curve is killing me, Suse spoiled me, I have used Suse since the 7.x days. Novell has run off some good people from the Suse project. Sad it is.Buh bye Suse, hello Gentoo...
