freemacblog.com— I recently started making some video tutorials so I had to find a good app to record the screen. I reviewed the five main options and gave them a score. Hopefully this will be a good resource for you.

I'm sure that Ambrosia is working on and updated version of SnapzPro or maybe even a separate video capturing app, but currently it is a bit pricey though.
I have used MacCapture with OK results. It has "follow the mouse" recording, editing, many other features and its $30.<a class="user" href="http://www.macxware.com/candypress/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=55">http://www.macxware.com/candypress/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=55</a>My complaint on this one and with SnapzPro was that I could never import the video into iMovie without it looking horrid so that I could do some more elaborate editing. I spend some time trying to dial in the pixel dimensions and compression parameters with both apps and was just never really satisfied. I would take suggestions if anyone has got them.My guess is that Apple will incorporate such a feature into the OS or as a bundled app (next generation version of "Grab") maybe as soon as Leopard.
I never thought about Apple adding this in, but that would be sweet. As a paid licensor of SnapzPro tho, I am getting increasingly impatient for a Universal Binary... Ambrosia needs to watch out, or like Parallels did to every other VPC app, they'll find the little guy has beaten them to the punch...
I bought Snapz Pro a few years ago because it was the only option I could find at the time. However, support was not stellar, the interface was clunky, and frequent crashes made a love hate relationship. Recently purchased IShowU and have been very impressed. Great support. Like the file size feature. Overall this gets a 10 in my book. Especially since the cost difference is $25 versus $70 (Snapz Pro). Isn't competition grand!
Hi.Thanks for this thread. I am planning to purchase iShowu too. But in the demo, It has "follow the mouse" feature but no highlight?Does it have this feature ?
Hey, I am writing on behalf of a group of graduate students from Michigan State University to request your help with an important project. As part of a larger program to evaluate the screen-recording software using experiences, we are conducting a survey of current and potential users to ask about their experiences and attitudes towards this kind of software. Here is a link to the survey:<a class="user" href="http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=HDFiprXUnPdCZxiWGgXuCQ_3d_3d">http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=HDFiprXUnPdC ...</a>The survey should take less than 15 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary and your answers will be completely confidential. No one will use the information in any way that could identify you.Thank you in advance for your participation
Hey ThreeGs... how do you like IShowU after a few months? I am on the hunt for a good one. Tried Jing and was impressed with how it worked but totally disappointed that the only way they would format it is in .swf. Macs don't dig .swf.... let me know what you think! thanks :)
Hey sorry for the delay. Best I've tried (but not purchased) is the new screen and video capture from Vara Software (<a class="user" href="http://www.varasoftware.com/products/screenflow/).">http://www.varasoftware.com/products/screenflow/).</a> It just received a "2008 Best Of" award. It will record isight video at the same time as a recording a screen cast. Also it can record in HD. Not sure I want this, but they proclaim this fact grandly in all of their marketing materials. However since most of my captures I immediately need to share JING is hard to beat. I do use IShowU and when I do it performs solidly. What uses do you need it for?
