arstechnica.com — Apple's unprecedented success over the past few years has propelled the company from its place as just another tech company to the most respected brand in the entire industry. Wow, put out this theory without researching Apple's past. Apple did license the Mac OS to hardware manufacturers. In the 1990s, Mac Clones were on the market, but failed to be a hit. When Jobs returned to Apple, he killed the Mac Clone license. Its probably better for Apple in the long run to remain "un-PC like."

Once you get a Hackintoshes working you don't have to mess with the main hardware again unless something dies. You just have to be very careful in selecting parts, mainly the mobo. If I remember correctly Psystar used Biostar mobos.

Correct. If you're very careful you can build a Hackintosh with a Quadcore & several gigs of better ram for the price of a Macbook Air.My father had one of the Mac clones (don't remember the name). He loved it, that was the last time he bought a non Windows PC. Though I still have his copies of OS/2 Warp on a shelf in my basement.

Really? You're sure? I hate to break it to you but the point I was trying to make is that PCs don't bother using those audio or video ports. Apple use their hybrid audio ports across their whole range of Macs that even includes the Mac mini and their AirPort wireless devices. As for the video adapters, I would highly discourage anyone who is fond of their graphics card from plugging an Apple adapter into it. They are designed for Apple ports.
