I really respect that this is article is written from a previous firefox user, that was the only reason I'm trying out Opera. Last time I downloaded Opera there were ads everywhere you looked and I quickly looked for an alternative, which happened to be Firefox.
I've given up on Firefox for OS X. It is too slow compared to Opera 9. Firefox works great in Windows and is quick, so I'll keep it on my business notebook. But I can live without the extensions, never used more than 2 really. Opera is pretty good, the bitorrent feature is nice and the trash icon feature that remembers a page that you accidently closed. Firefox may do the same thing or a heck of a lot more, but you need an extension. Same old dance. I don't want to spend time on their site looking for a feature with a weird name, just build it in.
If you want a fast browser with gecko engine, use k-meleon on windows, or camino on mac os.They don't have as many features as Opera or Firefox with extensions, but will be fast and use little ressources.
Does anyone know how to stop Opera from making the cursor jump to the center of the page when clicking your scroll wheel? I don't know about you, but this annoys the b'jesus out of me.
I said "good intentions", because he compared other things beside ram usage. When I saw the mistakes he made, I stopped reading, so I can't say if the other things he writes are interesting or not.
Same here...FF's main advantage is it's modularity. It's as good as you can make it. There aren't two similar FF installations, kinda like Harley-Davidson :)Opera is on other side much better 'out of the box' and easier to use for 'normal' people.
"On the text search scale it's: Firefox, IE, Opera"How can Opera be after IE here? The 'dot-search' is awesome. Just type . (dot) and start typing. Real time search (watch the frase on the botton left).
My favorite feature on Opera these days is the programmable search bar. It's so much more than just google search. I do my wikipedia and imdb and amazon searches through it too.The only downside I find with Opera is trying to figure out how to change the viewing settings. I'm using 9.25 on Linux and my monospaced sans serif is crap.

That's an unfair matchup, with a barebones Firefox 1.5. With extensions however, opera is beat.
