open-dent.com — I went to the dentist the other day and I noticed the app running on their computer had the title, "Open Dental". I thought, as I sat in the dental chair. Is he using an open source dental app? Sure enough, he was.

While this sounds pretty cool, the question is - who's repackaging and reselling the software if it's GPL (it is)?

My wife uses Open Dental practice management software in her dental practice. It's licensed under GPL. The main developer, who is also a dentist, sells optional subscription-based support for the product. It's every bit as full-featured as packages costing $15K - $25K.

If open-dent is so open source, how come you have to pay for it?You need a registration code.......

the software itself is free. But you can get support for a monthly fee which also includes all the latest updates. We have been using it for over a year now and it is great. It runs stable and has not given us any headaches yet. It's also quite intuitive, fast for staff to learn....but i don't want to sound like I'm getting paid to write this.

We support this software and we integrated in to one of our product IP Based PBX. when the call comes from any of their patients, a window pops with patient information on their screen. if the staff wants to call any of their patients, they can just click on a button on open dental patient information screen. the call will be automatically placed and connected to the phone near to their system. any one interested please let us know. you can contact us by going to our web site www.clubpbx.com. Hope this will help.
