I've got just about my entire family running on OOo. There are only 2 people who don't run it, my brother who got Office through his school and my step-mom who runs a business and refuses to use anything other than Office (and even that's recent, she was a long-time Wordperfect hold-out)-A
Before I bury this article for being "Inaccurate", it's so obvious that the person who submitted this article can't read or can't understand the context of an article. No where did the article proved that Open Office is a success.
"OpenOffice.org is well-known and well-admired among technology professionals. This move by Everex brings our software to ordinary consumers who just need office software that works in they way they expect, using files they already have, and is reliable day in and day out. People buying PCs now should be demanding OpenOffice.org from vendors."I am not quite sure, but it almost seems as if they don't know openoffice is free and can be downloaded by anyone from the internet. And I am not sure what technology professional would be using open office unless they are on linux and it's their only choice.
"As prices drop wages stay constant because the number of people working in an industry drops. Then people move elsewhere."Elsewhere being Asia. Wages DO decrease because manufacturing has decreased in the United States, resulting in a movement of these jobs to much, much lower paying wages at other locations (China, for example). I would definitely wager that the number of jobs and the pay of jobs created from Walmart are far lower than what existed when the manufacturing still occurred in the United States.Lower prices will nearly always mean lower wages as the corporation producing the product seeks ever higher profits. If China had the same standard of living as the United States, your argument may have held up. But it doesn't, and your argument fails miserably.

The issue here is NOT that OOo boosted sales of the PC, but rather that the sales of the PC boosted (or could boost) OOo's popularity.
