crn.com— After tens of thousands of requests for Dell to pre-load Linux, OpenOffice asks Dell to think about pre-loading its software, too.

what is sad is the dell's of the world put microsoft works on their computer - that is a crime because openoffice blows works out of the water and these companies are doing their customers no favors not pre installing open office and install works.
With a bit of guidance, people do come round to OpenOffice. I persuaded my parents to install it on their new PC. My mum has learned how to use it just fine, even though she still screams that the computer's broken when she accidentally backpages in Firefox (yes, I got them onto Firefox too).
I use OO for my publishing....I write for a magazine and need a platform that handles several different formats so I can send articles out to everyone and everyone can read them and work them and send them back for proofs and PDF final proofing. OO works great for this. And it didn't cost me 400 bucks like MS Office would have.I sent OO a $200 donation because I like it so much.
I'm gonna try an experiment and say "Users are utter dumbasses that can't stick a CD in drive, set their time zone, and say what they wanna be called on the computer" and see how many digg ups or digg downs I get. Go ahead and the thumbs up or down icon.
"@Ratteler: you're 40 and you're arguing operating systems and software with prepubescents?"Some one has to educate the dullards. ;-)@Parker."Yet Another M$ Apologist"When M$ murders children to summon Satan, YAMAs explain why this is a good thing.
"And, even if OO can't save to the right doc" I dunno about that. I saved a fairly elaborate document created in OOo and saved in a doc and sent it to some Windows using friends to test in Word and it was identical in either application.

OO.o works fine for me. In fact, there's no way I'd spend $500 on Microsoft Office for the minimum number of features it provides over Open Office.
