nik.com.au — There have been a spate of announcements recently with a number of companies both large and small announcing that their products will ’support’ OpenID. Each of these announcements was met with a rousing standing ovation by the bloggers over at Techmeme. First Microsoft (with Hypercard), then AOL, Digg, Wordpress, SmugMug and many more.

FTFA: "First Microsoft (with Hypercard), then AOL, Digg, Wordpress, SmugMug and many more."Umm... Hypercard? I don't know wtf this article is talking about, but I have not been able to find a single reference to any Microsoft "Hypercard" initiative, API set, identification system, specification, et cetera. I think the author is a bit confused.Hypercard was a ridiculously awesome late 80's Apple software product that was the inspiration for the creator of the first wiki, amongst other ideas (even the www itself in some respects). I remember using that thing to make sweet adventure games in elementary school... mmm...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HyperCard

So you are saying that if google hosted an openid server (please please)... and you could go to any site and log in with yazilliclick.gmail.com without registering on that site or providing a password (if you were already logged in at gmail) that you wouldn't use it?

We badly need some interoperability testing between OpenID providers and consumers. Of the few sites I've found that accept OpenID for login, way too many don't work with all the flavours of provider.

There is a way of using your gmail account as an ID withhttp://openid.nabber.org/ but you can figure that out your self

Digg could allow you to add OpenIDs to your accountSo you would be able to login through your ID to the same account your using now

Good. Even if it's not true it is quite a nice idea.
