newlaunches.com — Microsoft spent millions of dollars advertising its next generation OS 'Windows Vista' in China, in fact the IT juggernaut threw up the biggest Vista Ad on the 421 meter high Jin Mao tower in Shanghai China.

"You cannot compare windows vista to a Ferrari... "I don't know...expensive, gaudy, and a high cost of maintenance. Sounds like a decent analogy.

Sure they pirate lots of software, but I seriously doubt many people are installing Vista in china, legit or legal. There is plenty of windows 98 and 2000 users over there.

Unfortunately this just can't be true.. my girlfriend bought a laptop last weekend and it had vista (legal) installed. If you go to any of the computer malls around shanghai 95% of the computers are already running vista. In shanghai alone there are at least a couple dozen computer malls (4 stories packed with computers and electronics) and they're all full of people. Hell best buy opened a few months ago and i can tell you that place is moving merchandise.

Not to denigrate M$, but I'm betting that they are doing just fine collecting $180-$400/per DVD from the people who ARE ACTUALLY PAYING for Vista (ie, us sorry schmucks in the US/Europe). Off course we can all cling to our capitalist ideal and secretly tell each other that because of piracy Microsoft is inadvertently being FORCED to fleece the paying public $400 for an OS that they offer their employees for $40 (which I interpret to be cost). M$ of course has to do this because of the rampant piracy in the rest of the world, including but not limited to China. In short, we can all sleep well at night knowing that when we finally crush piracy in China and ENABLE their citizens to pay fully %20 of their annual income for the legal right to use DX10, we will be able to take comfort in the fact that our price for the latest OS will decrease by a marginal amount. Oh Joy!

gcgc got it right I had to translate the japanese and then read it finely. A lot of comments seem to be of the variety of "Baah Baaah Baaaah"But yes The article also seems to comment on the sales of a 'Vista Professional Edition' which may or may not be released by Microsoft

""Can you blame them for piracy?"What kind of logic is that. I can't afford a Ferrari so I should just steal one? I mean, really, can you blame me?"What the hell is your logic? The real question here is: If you could clone a Ferrari would you do it?

A buddy of mine went to China a couple of years ago. He said that pretty much any software you could think of was for sale on the streets for a couple of dollars.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. Notice the key word in this submission is "genuine" copies.
