@nighttrain2007:The amount of money spend on Hubble and ALL of NASA pales in comparison to the amount of money spend on "defense". For the fiscal year 2007, NASA's total budget is $10B. The amount of money budgeted for Hubble: $336.7M. In comparison, the amount of money allotted to the DoD: $439.5 BILLION... 43 times larger than NASA's entire budget. Cost of 1 F-22 Raptor Fighter plane: $127 million. Quite honestly, I think the cost of exploring our universe is well worth the cost of three flying death machines.Refs:<a class="user" href="http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/142458main_FY07_budget_full.pdf">http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/142458main_FY07_budget_full.pdf</a> - cover page and summary page 1-6<a class="user" href="http://www.defenselink.mil/comptroller/defbudget/fy2007/fy2007_greenbook.pdf">http://www.defenselink.mil/comptroller/defbudget/fy2007/fy2007_greenbook.pdf</a> -page 4(Table 1-1)<a class="user" href="http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-22-cost.htm">http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-22-cost.htm</a>

Does anyone know what the rights of use on these images are? Can I print 40x80 inch 'posters' and sell them?

@nighttrainAm I saying that I don't think we need to have a military? NO. I never said that. I am sorry if it was implied, I didn't intend it to be interpreted that way. I was trying to point out that fact that programs such as Hubble, which try to help us better understand the universe (yes, there is a whole universe outside our friendly little Earth bubble), cost much less than things that we use to kill each other. I think, and I think most people in America think, that spending money on something that is much bigger than ourselves is money much better spent than money spent of finding ways to kill our fellow earth dwellers. BTW, my use of the words "three flying death machines" is in no way a use of my political leanings. That is what we design them to do, isn't it? Kill people? That is literally what they are.

Yes, this is a false color image. The link reads, "Red corresponds to sulfur, green to hydrogen, and blue to oxygen emission."While many people complain about false color images they have some neat features. If you view the independent color channels you can see the emission of each element! Needeless to say, I love this "feature" of false color images.
