techpwn.com — One of the most hidden, yet very valuable features in Mac OS X is ?Summarize?. It is a very self-explanatory feature that can be found in the services menu, which is itself a very underused part of OS X. It will summarize any length of text into a very accurate, cut down summary. Here is how to use it on OS X...

Really cool feature indeed, but the author failed to give a credit to the MacBreak folks who first talked about it. MacBreak had a podcast specifically for this feature a month ago.

Doing 50% of the original text in Word 2003:One of the most hidden, yet very valuable features in Mac OS X is “Summarize”. What it does is it takes an selection of text and generates a very precise summary of the text. 1. Open the program that holds the text you would like to summarize (it doesn’t work on some programs, it works best on Mac programs like Safari, etc., but read below for a tip on how to make it work with any text)2. Highlight the text that you want to summarize and click the program name you are using in the menu bar.3. Navigate down to the services selection, and in there you will find “Summarize”.It is also a great feature and tool for students who have long online reading assignments. It is amazing how accurate this summary actually is. Enjoy…

OS X's most consice summary of the Macbeth:Within this hour at most I will advise you where to plant yourselves, Acquaint you with the perfect spy o' the time, The moment on't; fort must be done tonight And something from the palace (always thought That I require a clearness); and with him- To leave no rubs nor botches in the work- Fleance his son, that keeps him company, Whose absence is no less material to me Than is his father's, must embrace the fate Of that dark hour.... it just picked a spot in the middle-- oh well :) ... or maybe it knows something I don't?

I just tried the first book of the bible, the one where creation is described._________2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had; Put forth I pray thee thy hand under my hand, and I will make thee swear before the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son, of the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I dwell; but thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred and take a wife unto my son Isaac._________My conclusion: OS X believes in evolution.

The idea is really great. And the most amazing thing: It Works! Well, actually as it is developed by Apple it is not such a big surprise, that it works.
