"A sad year for libertarians" ? While I agree with you that Mr. Badnarik is a wonderful man and would have made a great president, unfortunately most of America never even heard of him - and that is why I am excited about Bob Barr - and while you and I agree that his past record leaves alot to be desired, unfortunately so does mine, as it took a combination of Aaron Russo's film and Ron Paul to wake me up from my neo-con coma - Bob Barr was ahead of me and has been working for the past several years to right his wrongs, in conjunction with the ACLU and the Marijuana Policy Project. This campaign has the potential to introduce millions of Americans to libertarian philosophy for the first time in their lives, and that can only be a good thing, add to that Ron Paul calling Bob Barr a friend, and thats good enough for me. I think this will be the best year the libertarian party has ever had.

Senile Justice John Paul Stevens wrote that he feared that the case "may well be just the first of an unknown number of dominoes to be knocked off the table." We can only hope so, Johnny.

more important than restoring habeas corpus?

I agree this was an important ruling, but one of the most important for liberty? Maybe if we were legitimately threatened by the potential for poorly organized martial law. The government isn't going to march into your town and try to put you in a camp, it doesn't work like that anymore. Controlling the people today is an intellectual game, not a matter of force.Net neutrality, crushing telecom immunity, re-balancing the powers of the executive. All much more important than hand guns for people in crime-ridden neighborhoods. I mean, if we're really going to make grandiose statements about liberty.

Wow, way to make a stand, icono, vote for the lesser of two evils? You need a spine transplant.

It's sad that the Court should even have to make a ruling on it. It's so plain and simple. Go Barr!

I beg to differ that this is not one of the most important for liberty. Just imagine what would have happened if the Supreme Court had ruled the other way. Jurisdictions would be free to start banning every weapon. Many state and local governments I'm sure would create laws to take anything considered an weapon away. Even knives, stun guns, pepper spray, etc. could be considered arms and could be banned. Surely then, innocent law abiding citizens would be at the mercy of the outlaws and the police. Please read the follow excerpt. Note the use of the word "private""Whereas civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as military forces, which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms." — Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Federal Gazette on June 18th, 1789
