I thought they were mostly groaning or silent at the price point. People wanted the Mac Mini (headless Mac with low pricepoint). They got a full price PowerMac that was small, thus its failure. If it came in under $1000 it would have sold really well. There was nothing wrong with the product itself.
I'm using one right now. upgraded it to 1 ghz, 512 megs of ram, new video card, installed a fan, and I have a 160 gig HD in it. ofc, it's getting a bit old, so I'm waiting for the core 2 duo imac to come out
I don't want them to put a Mac Pro in a cube. I want them to take a Mac Pro, rip out an optical drive bay (leaving 1), rip out 3 hard drive bays (leaving 1), rip out 3 PCIe slots (leaving 1), and put the power supply on the floor. This would make the machine substantially smaller. Maybe not an 8-inch cube, but far smaller then the beast that is the Mac Pro.As for why they don't do it, it's because this machine would cannibalize sales of iMacs, Minis, and Mac Pros. They'd have to price it very similarly to an iMac for it to fit into their business model ($1100-1300 gets you either a swanky all-in-one OR an upgradable minitower")
imightbewrong:It didn't get hot. The G4 was a reasonable chip for heat. In fact for years the PowerPC was much better than anything intel had for heat. It's only been in more recent years (especially with the G5) that the PowerPC got ridiculous.

I guess I have short term memory but that seems way expensive even for Apple. I still have a lamp imac g4...If I only had a job.
