Colbert might have initially hitched a ride on Stewart's coat tails, but he's found his own audience now. He's been on for four year already and his show has improved exponetially from where it started. If you only watched for the first couple months you should give it another try.

Dude. He played SIX FULL MINUTES OF SOMEONE ELSE'S SHOW. Those were six minutes of Stewart questioning his integrity. Then he AGREED.That is professional class and respect if I ever saw it. He could have played a few short sound bites that made the point and shown less than 30 seconds. Heck, the ARTICLE over-summarized. What Olbermann did was make sure his viewers know Stewart's position in FULL, and THEN agreed.

@Rsulliv1 - and THAT is what makes Olbermann so much better. Limbaugh is just a gas bag that spouts opinions. Olbermann may be sever but he has facts and common sense to back him up!

@mzx639 *deep breath and sigh* Politics is my stock and trade. It's what I do all day and, often, into the night. I follow what ALL viewpoints are saying. I have noticed that conservatives are the only ones that have ever questioned my loyalty to my country. I am a disabled vet who was willing to lay down my life for my country and an Army Brat on top of that. I have seen many other countries, and I know what's great about America. What are your credentials? I'm willing to grant that you, in your own way, are a loyal American, too. Why is it that conservatives think that they are the only ones who are patriotic and that they have the right to go around accusing others of hating America? You don't know me or my feelings. If you did, you'd know that I'm passionate about my country and that I do what I do because I love it so deeply. It pains me to see it bought and operated by the wealthiest 1% of Americans who own 90% of America's wealth. That only leaves 10% of America's wealth for the unwashed masses like you and me to share. Wrap your head around that fact. Or maybe you are one of the fortunate few who owns a TV network like Rupert Murdoch owns FoxNews. He controls the message there so that he can continue to operate his corporate structure unhampered by governmental regulation and interference - and taxation! He also owns the Wall Street Journal now, and the message there has definitely changed its tone since he purchased it. There is very little give and take from opposing views now. There is only the conservative message: no financial regulation, no lapse of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, no discontinuation of tax subsidies for Big Oil, etc. Perhaps this makes sense to you, but it doesn't to me. If this makes me disloyal to my country, I want you to explain to me how. Did you know that the Wall Street banks that caused the economic debacle last year are still carrying on doing business the same way that they were before the collapse? Why? The Republicans are blocking any attempt to re-instate common sense regulations that were put in place after the Great Depression to separate corporate banks from corporate insurance companies and stock brokerages that led to forty years of prosperity and the rise of our middle class. Why would they do that? Am I disloyal to America to think that putting back what worked when America was in its period of greatest prosperity for the middle class and the American Dream is a really good idea? This isn't doing something new and different. This is returning to something that worked for forty years! And why don't the Republicans think it is a good idea? Could it be that they are bought and paid for by their corporate lobbyists? It could explain why House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner visited many large Wall Street banks in an effort to win large donations from them the week before last. I can't think of any other reason for his visits, can you? The markets are making a huge killing these days. Do you follow the markets? I do. It's part of the political picture. Hmm...So, what do I think needs to be changed? I think that We, The People need to wrest control of our country away from the wealthy and the corporations who own the best part of America. They control most of the media, and your ideas are so much a symptom of what is wrong with the country. There is something really terrible wrong, and we all sense it. I think that is the actual feeling behind the Tea Party crowd, and I understand their anger and bewilderment. However, I do know what's going on. It's just that most of the conservatives have been brainwashed into thinking that anything that doesn't agree with their party line is a 'liberal plot'. I'd like to know how liberals or progressives have that much power. If they did, everything that happened under the last president, well,.....wouldn't have. I fact-check everything I think I believe by going to a lot of different sites that are well known for being non-aligned politically. Some of them are factcheck.org , snopes.com , and polifact.com/truth-o-meter . I also use opensecrets.org very frequently. It is a great site that follows the money trails on everything in Washington D.C. on all sides. Really, if I want to know what and who is at the bottom of an ad campaign, I just follow the money trail. It always leads back to the people with the agenda. I use many other ways to check my facts, too, but there is neither the space nor time to tell you everything I use in my job. However, I can give you an example of how the Republicans are lying in order to score political points against Pres. Obama. What shocked me was that this lie came from Susan Collins, the Senator from Maine, whom I have respected in the past. I suspect that your comment about 'trashing the Constitution' might be an allusion to her recent rant about the war on terror. When you read the article, pay particular attention to the decision that was delivered in the Boumediene v. Bush Supreme Court case. Did you know that the Bush administration lost every case it brought before the Supreme Court regarding civil rights and the terrorists it had captured? You won't hear that many places. You can Google it and prove it to yourself. Anyway, Pres. Bush appointed two of the Supreme Court Justices himself, including the Chief Justice. This decision affirmed that the Constitution protects not only Americans, but ALL with whom we deal. It might suck at times, but if we abandon our own ideals, who are we in the end? As Benjamin Franklin said, "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security." Does that sound like liberal posturing to you? I think that it is a very deeply American point of view. It takes a lot of bravery to tell the world that we are going to fight the terrorists, but we are going to fight them on OUR terms, without changing who our Founding Fathers made us! Have you ever thought about it like that? I joined the military because I believed in their mission. This really is a dangerous world, and we have real enemies. Most liberals will agree with that. However, as usual, not all the facts get out. I knew that Iraq was the wrong war before we went in for many reasons. One was that we bombed that country from one end to the other during the first Gulf War, and everything that looked like it could possibly have been WMD was destroyed. Another is that we were in Iraq for six months after the first Gulf War, and I know how truly demolished that country's economy and military was. There was no way Saddam could have afforded a nuclear program. Also, I followed Joe Wilson's report on Niger. Also, I had friends in the military at the Pentagon at that time still, most of whom have since retired. Their opinions weren't solicited, but we were all pretty much in agreement that Al-Queda wasn't there and neither were WMD. Sadly, we were proved right. Yet, my patriotism was questioned over and over during that time - by conservatives with no facts. No criticism of the president during war, they said!! Yet, listen to all the criticism being leveled at this president. Actually, he has been very effective in the war on terror. Was there an attempt on Christmas day? Yes. There was a similar one during the previous president's tenure. So what. We need to re-vamp our detection system, and my ideas would make our airports look much more like Israel's. Lots more government regulations, though. I don't question your loyalty. I question your sources and hope that you will do some research on your own. I think that our country needs people with all view points with many ideas to keep it fresh and functioning well. I don't want to stamp out the conservative view point. I want there to be a fair exchange of ideas. However, all I seem to get when I try is vitriol like I got from you. Why is that? You were so quick to condemn me. Can you explain why?And change? How about change back, mostly...Susan Collins Spreads Central Myth About the Constitutionhttp://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2010/02/01/ ...GOP makes Christmas bomber lose-lose for Obamahttp://salon.com/news/politics/war_room/?page=2
