gamewad.com — Videogames are evolving into a fine art just as legitimate as any symphony or concerto, novel or poem, statue or sculpture, fresco or portrait. Okami is one such project that seems to offer more depth for the gamer to swim about in. This may not necessarily apply when it comes to game mechanics, but it does in terms of provoking thought and ideas.

Okami also happens to have 17 minutes of unskippable boring text before you can even begin playing the game. If ever a game wants to totally kill my desire to play it, that would be the way to do it.

Okami is like a living storybook. It's meant to tell a myth and take players on a journey. I can't speak for you, but I believe a game like this would be killed by steep difficulty for the same reason an otherwise great book can be spoiled if there are too many distracting interruptions to its narrative.

I loved this game. The graphics were amazingly beautiful and the game play was exciting. If this game had come out on the Wii it probably would have received much more attention considering the target audience of Wii gamers. As it stands, most of the people I talked to about the game thought that a wolf painting was a stupid idea and didn't give a thought for the beauty and art found in it.

Okami brings to mind the different dimension that can be explored in the PS2 medium. Many game producers try to go for easy copy models of games that have proven to work and seldom try something new. I've found that games that do the same in terms of breaking the boundaries are, but does not mean that they are super cool: Space Channel 5, Katamari, Wario Ware, and Brain Age.
