I live here I know Mr. Freshwater, He's a nice guy and thinks that pushing his religion is good for the world. I don't think he means too offend people. But he does, when ever he was at church (When I was a little guy) he would always be real enforceable in his speeches. But I am glad that he is finally getting what is coming too him. He is very childish about this whole thing and our town is all retarded about the topic, saying that there is no problem with what he does. I would love to see how my town would react to someone of another religion becoming a teacher and having his/her religious beliefs being taught to other kids.

rodger:The erosion rate of Niagra Falls is irrelevant to the age of the earth, because the age of Niagra Falls =/= the age of the Earth. Geology shows that Niagra Falls formed 7000 years ago, but not that it formed at the origin of the planet.I wonder how many creationist claims are based on the idea that the planet is exactly the same now as it was when it was formed...

Who are you to make that judgment? Is that your place? You can say that because this man did something extreme that he doesn't believe in god? That is preposterous. Ridiculous. YOU cannot make that judgment. Have you ever done anything that is against your Christian ideals? Isn't every sin the same? So by your logic and the biblical definition of imperfect humans, NO ONE can be a Christian. And the priest analogy holds no merit. This guy did something in the name of God. The priest is just a criminal.I am not saying that this guy did nothing wrong. I am saying that whether or not he followed your "Christian Ideals," he is still a Christian and if you'll claim him (as others have done) for teaching Creationism and accepting "God" as an answer on a science test, you have to accept him for the bad as well.I have to accept the atheists that form cogent arguments when arguing with theists, just like I have to accept those that put "f**k Christianity" as their only argument, even though they do not display the ideals of the rational atheist.

So what were you instructed to believe at the age of 2? Obviously not creationism or as you said, you would believe it now. So I assume you were instructed to believe in non-creationism from the age of 2. How does this make you any different?

"I guess if the guy would have burnt a heart in the guys arm then it would have been just a wacky guy but since he is demented enough to put a cross on it then somehow the christian faith is to blame? I just don't buy it."Were he not a Christian would he have done this? Wouldn't he just be a crazy man? He did it with religious motivation, and this is a microcosm of bad people doing bad things IN THE NAME OF GOD. That is the overarching point here. We never will come to common ground on this one. I chalk this one up to religion, you don't. No matter what you say, without religion, this wouldn't have happened. I won't be able to change your mind, you have closed off all objectivity in this instance. And before you use the argument again, Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot were motivated by power, greed, and politics. They persecuted and killed millions, any who opposed them. They didn't seek out religion singularly. They were bad people. Stalin saw the Russian Orthodox Church as an impedance, the Khmer Rouge wanted to set ethnic and religious groups against each other by classification, and Mao himself claimed that his ordered killings were "necessary for the securing of power." These men were atheists, but they didn't act the way they did because they were atheists, but because they were power hungry. There is a big difference.

It does change whether this is anything to do with religion.

of course.. that's always the rap. Apparantly, the way it works is that ANY christian can denounce the christianity of any other christian. Therefore, EVERY christian is only a "self proclaimed" christian, and when one of them does something wrong, all the others get to distance themselves by claiming "he's not a christian" or "he's mentally ill"..not to mention that you HAVE to be somewhat mentally ill to believe in a lot of that crap. where's george carlin when you need him? :(

Are you honestly suggesting that (s)he would have been "more then able" to move to any other country (s)he wanted at the age of 10?

The article makes no mention for any "main reason" for her firing, but what it does allude to is the exact opposite of what you're saying. Now, while this post as well my previous one are obviously pure speculation - without any proof or citations, unfortunately, so are yours.

Updates :An investigation into a Mount Vernon schools science teacher drew nearly 200 of his supporters and detractors to a school-board meeting last night.Tim Beougher stepped up to the lectern to warn that board members would be setting a "dangerous precedent" if they stopped teacher John Freshwater from promoting Christianity in his public-school classroom."If you throw the Bible out, you throw God out. And if you throw God out, you throw what's right out," he said. Many in the crowd offered "amens."<a class="user" href="http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2008/05/13/MtVernonmeet.ART_ART_05-13-08_B1_6EA6DSU.html?sid=101" rel="nofollow">http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/st ...</a>And a dailykos take on it :<a class="user" href="http://digg.com/world_news/Ohio_teacher_burned_cross_on_students_arms" rel="nofollow">http://digg.com/world_news/Ohio_teacher_burned_cro ...</a>Student, wins $5,500 in settlement, the rest of the of the $121,000 went to his lawyers.
