modchipstore.com — The SpiderChip is the first chip to achieve what many thought was not possible: Solderless installation on Xbox 'v1.6'.It is also compatible (and solderless) with Xbox v1.0 to v1.5Even better, it comes with a low price tag, lower than regular non-solderless chip.

It seems like there should be a better word for that than "non-solderless", but I can't figure out what it is. . .

Uh, mine is solderless and I got it two years ago..tsupersonic: it's not illegal to mod your xbox, it's illegal if you use the mod to use pirated games

DO NOT BUY THIS CHIP!It's truly terrible I've tried two and they are both terrible. Plus you can get solderless chips cheaper albeit not for 1.6b. This ad shouldn't be on digg, a review on the other hand would help. These chips have horrible LPC connection read the xbox-scene forums for all the people complaining of this.

opening the xbox voids the warranty and installing modchips is illegal. jeez, I thought you people were smart

I bought a Xbox just to mod it. Well, I ordered a spider chip and one day I was feeling bored and a little curious. So I popped out the chip (super glued to the mobo) and my xbox never started again:/ still trying to recover my xbox hard drive.

Dude, just because doing something voids it's warranty does NOT mean that the act is illegal. Putting a modchip inside of the Xbox is definently legal.
tsupersonicApr 20, 2005
true, but it's still illegal. I'm sure MS doesn't want you to mod the xbox. IT'S f**kING ILLEGAL. YOU SIR ARE A DUMBASS. END OF CONVERSATION. YOU GOT OWNED!

I phoned MS and checked that out... basically they don't care. I and the rep that I was talking too compared it to adding picture in picture to a regular non-picuture in picture TV.

I hate to drag this out but I can't stand when people don't know what words mean. "Illegal : contrary to or in violation of a law". When you purchase your xbox it becomes your property. You are free to do with that equipment anything you please as long as it does not infringe on copyright agreements or create a safety issue. Here are some examples Legal: Buying an xbox taking it apart (now that does void the warranty but that is another issue and still not illegal) and modifying it so you can cluster it with other xboxes to build a mini super computer. (There is someone out there really doing that) Illegal : Taking apart and modifying it so that you can copy and run pirated games. Legal : taking your xbox and putting up YOUR OWN butt sideways. Illegal : taking your xbox and putting up your drunk unsuspecting friends ass sideways. (and that wouldn't even be something Microsoft could press charges with). So in really it all comes down to intent. You can buy an xbox and do whatever you want with it as long as it does not break any copyright laws. It is your property to do with as you please.
