Some people just don't get it... I enjoy a good comedy video as much as the next man, but this is a cat flushing a toilet.A.Cat.Flushing.A.Toilet.Maybe if there was a category under "Videos" called "For vacuous f**kwits" - then I could filter that... Sheesh.
Yes, I had quite a few people over to my desk here at work watching a cat flushing a toilet. I felt pretty dumb at first, but when everyone else was laughing as hard as I was, I felt better. What a great waste of company time!
"OK, honestly, what the f**k do you care? Is it really a big deal if there is a stupid little video on digg. Stupid? Yes. Funny? Yes. Last time I checked one story you don't approve of doesn't make the entire site bad."Except that it seems pretty endemic of what Digg has become. One story does not a bad site make - but I would contend that it is not 'one bad story' - it is a string of crass, superfluous, nonsense that has been streaming into the site since the inception of v3.0.Not only has the content that is being submitted degraded, but the commentary surrounding it is showing a noticable decline. It is as if 'the bar has been lowered' on Digg users expectations...It is my contention that the very thing that makes Digg 'special', its unique selling point, is its ultimate weakness. The peer-review system (as it is practised here) means that there is an incentive to strive for content and commentary that is 'lowest common denominator' in nature. That hurts the content, and that hurts readership. As the site becomes more popular, the content becomes more broad in its appeal, more general in its nature and more likely to be available elsewhere. When that happens, people leave and the site traffic drops, the content focus becomes more concentrated and content quality goes up. It is a "boom and bust" cycle that happens when communities come together, form alliances and split up.The trick is finding a balance between quality content and compelling commentary - and with the 'one size fits all' Digg, that is certainly NOT happening.Users are NOT limited to particular sections - and whilst I find it hard to understand why a cat flushing a toilet is funny, those that do are able to comment on why Java is the worst thing to ever happen to the obeject-orientated paradigm. That is not 'social news reporting' or 'peer editing' - that is just a free for all with 'mob rule' and 'lowest common denominator' as its mantras. That is why I care - because I see the value draining from the site at a rapid rate."You are obviously still here so it has some value to you. Stop complaining and leave if you feel so strongly that digg has gone to the s**ts. If you decide to continue browsing digg I sincerely hope you stop complaining like a bitch."Point taken - case in point.
they are switching soon to a low-flow cat soon because of government mandate. the new cat will still have to flush 10 times to get the job done, but he will use only about a gallon per flush.

now if I can only get my cat to do this, and use the toilet... we'll be all set.
