Excellent article, giving lots of food for thought. @PaulChapI think you are misreading the article. You say, "What's disgusting about this article is that it suggests that someone with a less than perfect childhood should be treated with disdain and suspicion and outright hostility." That is not what it suggested to me, and I don't believe that is what the writer meant. I think he was suggesting that Obama had a lot of trauma in his young life. And let's face it, he had more than "a less than perfect childhood" - he had an exceedingly traumatic one. You think people hate him because he made a success at a young age. No, you are wrong. People have obvious questions re his achievements because he won't allow them to be seen for some reason or other. If he is so great, why is everything that would prove that off limits to the public - at Obama's insistence? You are trying to shield someone who wouldn't give you the time of day and you are shielding him for the wrong reasons.
Libs have been educated to defend their bad decisions. They elected a man whose ego is so dysfunctional (the lack of humility, I mean) that he cannot merely be the President of the United States, he must be more...he must be adulated. A rock star. Otherwise he lacks confidence. The European press has charactized him as a "light-stepper" and a "pantywaist". It would seem to most of us that the Obamatrons need to rethink their initial fervor and take a more wait-and-see posture, but the libs have too much at stake. They voted out of overwhelming Bush hatred and so they have nowhere else to go...they can't just stop hating Bush or stop "loving" Obie. They hung themselves up and don't know how to get themselves down. Let's pull up a chair and watch the fun.
"liberals LOVED McCain until he became the Republican nominee"it's not because he became the republican nominee. It's because he abandoned the principles that drew liberals to him when he became the republican nominee. Correlation!=causation.
I loved McCain in the primaries, almost as much as Ron Paul. But since the Republicans chose him as their nominee, the Republicans took over him. He turned into a figurehead, and many of the things I liked him for disappeared. I was excited when he got the nomination... and grew less and less excited when I kept following the campaign. One thing I remember specifically is him talking about making sure he had a great qualified Vice President who wouldn't be a ploy to get votes. And I think the Republican party got in his way on that one, and tried to put a woman forth to seem progressive and steal some of those votes.
