nytimes.com — President-elect Barack Obama called on Friday for the Bush administration and Congress to enact an economic-stimulus package, and he pledged to confront the country’s economic crisis “head on” the moment he is sworn in on Jan. 20.

It's funny how people are ready to throw the new president out of the window when he has not even had the chance to do anything yet.@digitronixEven if McCain got elected it would not make one bit of difference. When it comes right down to it the president is only one man and he only has so much wiggle room. After the Bush administration you can bet that the new president will be watched very closely. He won't be able to do ANYTHING without a large amount of approval from all around the table. But electing Obama has changed the way other countries view the United States. If McCain was elected you would not get the same effect. In the end the president is a puppet on strings but at the very least you have someone with a good head on their shoulders.

That's why everything Obama does to destroy the economy is eventually going to be blamed on Bush and his profession for free markets (which he, of course, never materialized) rather than the principle of big government, deficit spending, and welfarism. I don't need to put any faith in Obama, because I already know he's not going to fix any problems, and everything he wants to do will destroy the economy. And I was never a McCain supporter either.

This is just a warm-up for January.

Perhaps, but he seems like the best choice for the job.

Obama's plan is to keep printing money until the problem goes away, which is exactly what got us into this situation in the first place. Sacrificing our currency to prop up all these failed businesses and banks will only result in a hyperinflationary depression a few years from now.

We ALL recognize that; the question is whether he is smart enough to figure out what to do about it.

He was probably briefed on how much s**t we are in and didn't get a wink of sleep afterwards.

Obama does not read your Digg posts.....sorry.

I say we start with 0bama and Biden's money to start spreading the wealth around. Hey they said it was patriotic. Don't be so selfish guys! That would be speedy action. It's only fair they have more than millions of the people in America.

He can't actually do anything until he is President, and as he has said in press conferences, graciously, there in only one President at a time. Come 20th January he'll hit the ground running, no doubt about it. He'll have been foreseeing and structuring things for quite some time now, in the event that he won. (You wouldn't expect anything less, would you? in case anyone starts chirping about presumption .. or would you expect him to start planning on 20th January .. )

Well, he's just had over 21 months of practically non stop campaigning. He didn;t even get a break whereas McCain had three months in which to twiddle his thumbs. His grandmother has died and he had to put his own grief on hold in the final day of the campaign and for the time being until he can have some private time to grieve for her. That was big stuff for him and I don't give credit to anyone who suggests he should be able to handle that. Put yourself in his shoes.Unlike Bush, who had holidays at the drop of a hat, and McCain who took weekends off, Obama has been at it for twenty one months with very little time to himself.Perhaps now he can draw breath, take time to go to his grandmother's funeral, be with his family to connect and play and be a family, before he embarks on the transition in earnest. He's one heck of a grafter.
