gizmodo.com — It looks like President-Elect Obama isn't going to give up his beloved BlackBerry this January without some sort of fight. In an interview with Barbara Walters, he revealed that he was working to find a solution to that whole surrender-your-cellphones-and-email-accounts at the door policy.

Dugg for the pic in the article. And of course the fact that Obama is striving to be the first president with a Blackberry and email accounts.

Because the communication lines utilized by them are owned by private companies, and are notoriously insecure. Despite what people want to believe, anything you say on a cellphone, or send with it a la texts or email, has the potential to become public knowledge. That is not a risk that we should be willing to take with the president. Yea, it sucks for him, but he needs to grow up and deal with it.

If you don't know why the policies discourage personal use of these devices, then how can you be so sure that they are stupid ideas. It a simple matter. If his wife, daughter, or anyone else close send him an email, talks to him on the phone, or sends a text message, it all then becomes a matter of public record. And anyone is able to access that information with the freedom of information laws.It is not a law, its a policy meant to protect the last shred of privacy some of these people have. If he wants to give that up then all the power to him. I think it's great. But I could never blame him for wanting to keep private communications between him and his wife private.
