hosted.ap.org — Every American should have health care coverage within six years, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said Thursday as he set an ambitious goal soon after jumping into the 2008 presidential race. "The time has come for universal health care in America," Obama said at a conference of Families USA, a health care advocacy group.

80% of health problems are self inflicted. So then why should we not be giving universal automobile care? Or universal house care? You wreck your car? No problem, everyone helps pay for it.It's the same thing with health. Most people's health problems they bring upon themself. Whether it be through obesity, poor diet, or just plain an accident. So why should I have to pay for other's poor choices in life? Universal health care is simply one more step towards communism.Capitalism favors the rich not the poor? Well what do you want? For people who don't work to be favored and those who do work to not have a reward for it? That's how life works. You work and you get ahead in life, you don't want you stay behind. I'm sick of seeing all these people saying how it's so unfair that rich people have an advantage in life. I'm not rich (far from it) but I have enough sense to realize that it's that way for a reason.

Well, that proves that age doesn't make you smart. You're actually proud of the fact that if you were seriously injured or came down with a serious illness that you'ld have nothing to fall back on.The whole point of a risk pool is to share risk, but you're all so full of Ayn Randian bulls**t about making it all on your own and being self reliant. f**k you guys, you don't deserve to live in this country, you're so f**king selfish. When you do get sick, don't f**king come to me, or your insurance. In fact, pay for your own care, if you're so responsible.Nobody is giving you ANYTHING when you pay insurance. You're sharing risk, because you KNOW that the odds could turn against you. Its got nothing to do with trying to get something from nothing. Lord knows my insurance company isn't giving me jack because I'm healthy, and its so expensive because it offers decent standards of care.

What a callous comment.

@ AfreytYou don't seem to be able to see the difference between government and private health care.I can opt to join with others to have private health care. I may opt to join with non-smokers, health nuts, vegetarians etc. I may be able to bargain to get lower rates. I will be able to choose the health care plan that suits me best. With a government plan, I pay.. end of story. I don't get to not pay for people who are higher risk because they don't take care of themselves. I have no choice.. and choice is Freedom. As far as being selfish goes... you are the one who wants me to give you something. I ask nothing of you. Who is selfish.I am gracious with my money. I give to charities. I believe in helping my fellow man. All of that generosity is defeated in people when forced to give of themselves at the threat of imprisonment. Responsibility is taken out of the equation.I believe in being a part of a risk pool. I have insurance now. I do believe in self reliance.. and that is why I am part of a risk pool. but it is the risk pool that I choose to be a part of. I have the choice to be a part of it. I don't need the government to protect me thank you.I will go to my insurance should I fall ill. Again, free will. The biggest misunderstanding we are having.. is in your seeming inability to be able to discern between coercion and freedom. Private health care = Freedom, Government Health Care = Coercion. As far as this statement goes: "You've probably never failed at anything your whole life, ego the size of a planet. Nothing bad could ever possibly happen to you, so why worry about it." Not so. I have a dead thyroid gland. Dead. Probably from an illness acquired during childhood. I suffered for 15+ years from extreme cold, muscle aches, fatigue, dry skin etc.. but who's fault was that? It was chance.. it was life. The sooner people quit acting like they are victims, the sooner this nation can call itself the Land of the Free, without hypocrisy.

Europe is dying.. standard of living is a moot point. If no one is around to enjoy it, who cares. It takes 2.1 children per family to replace it.. Take a look at the leaders of this list and determine the cause for yourself. Socialism is the cause in my opinion.Free nations produce because people have hope for the future, they believe they can change the world. Freedom of course isn't the only factor, religion, culture etc. play a large part.. but Freedom is a key player.1. Bulgaria 1.13 children born/woman (2003 est.)2. Private companies are not allowed to deliver 1st class mail for a reason. They can do it cheaper. So the government has to prevent them from doing so by threatening then with violence if they try.
