The people, left right or in the middle, need to understand:The Government had 2 options to help GM:1 - Let GM continue business without aid. ....- GM would fix itself or Fail. With a fail, international or domestic buyouts; bankrupcy; and asset liquidition would saturate the market. With a low cost of capital in a down economy, other operators, like Ford and Toyota, could buy up factories and tools, to expand their already profitable operations. Any loss would be isolated to major GM stockholders, and private banks and lending institutions.....- Meanwhile, labor would cease in the short term, but recover quickly as expanded domestic production resumes. The labor is Unionized, and therefore not a negative loss in this case. White collar positions would suffer the most labor losses.2 - The Congress can do what they did in Spring 2009. The only thing we know, is that Congress's choice have put us in the hole for $30 billion, and GM's still struggling.
