telegraph.co.uk — Some of the music industry?s biggest names are considering offering their music free online following the success of the experiment by the band Radiohead to let fans download their new album without charge. Now Jamiroquai and Oasis, two major names not contracted to record labels, might be following Radiohead and giving their music for free as well

lol. I never said I didn't like Oasis. I think don't look back in anger is a great song, one of my favorites actually. You're right though sadilak, they haven't been relevant in years in the U.S., and when I say relevant I mean running up the charts and consistently getting airplay on the radio. I couldn't say about the U.K., but it would make sense that they've been more popular over the years. I really don't enjoy jamiroquai though. I can still picture that big freakin hat.

Wow, Oasis is going to give their music away. Maybe that's because it's not worth buying. I certainly wouldn't take it for free. Radiohead, on the other hand has some good musical ideas - too bad they don't fix it in the studio when their singer goes flat though.

FTA: "...why would you sign your career away to a record label when CD sales are falling so rapidly?"That was probably the most important point in my opinion, this is the way of the future - no middle man.Oh, and it's actually easier for new bands to break through becuase they don't need a record label to sign them on

I guess what I'm saying is, it looks like they're talking about a price drop on par with Radiohead's "pay what you want to pay" motto. Given that, they're most likely looking at a decrease in revenue, no matter what. Besides, most bands don't make the majority of their money from album sales, and they never have, so where's the pinch, exactly? It's the touring that brings in the cash.

Oasis have already said they would never give away their music. Unless Q magazine et al are lying.
