huffingtonpost.com — Bill O'Reilly led off tonight's episode of The Factor with a pointed critique of the latest small-minded content of the news cycle, criticizing the McCain campaign both in terms of character and tactics, slagging the media for pressing the story senselessly, and largely absolving Obama.

OMG! Hell freezes over. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! (thank you Ghostbusters) Absolutely remarkable. This just shows the depth of Rove-Schmidt's screwing up the McCain campaign and losing credibility.

O'Reilly has right wing views, but I believe from his other comments that he realizes that Obama is genuine.I also think he realizes that Palin is a loon, and he does not want to be riding that pony as this thing starts falling apart for the McCain Palin ticket.O'Reilly does what is best for O'Reilly.

My thoughts have been that he knows he's going to get a lot of transient viewers due to the recent Obama interview, and to keep them he has to convince these viewers, many of which are people who consider O'Reilly a right-wing nut without really coming to that conclusion themselves through viewing his show, that he has reasonable opinions. So to capitalize on this surge of viewers from a different-from-normal demographic, it would be rather smart of him to actually give more fair talking points.Or perhaps he really has always been like this--though I have watched his show on other occasions (not been pointed to specific clips, just meandered t the fox news channel when he was on to see what he was really about) and I'm not sure I believe that.

This article is going to spawn two kinds of comments:1. This is just a media stunt to capitalize on the viewers O'Reilly got from interviewing Obama.2. Even O'Reilly doesn't like McCain. He's sure to lose the election! So don't waste your time. We've got it.Of course, it couldn't be that O'Reilly is actually semi-smart and might potentially be somewhat fair and balanced. That's outrageous. It's Fox News!
