osopinion.com — Could Apple's decision to move to Intel processors be motivated by something more than IBM's inability to meet the company's processor demands? This op/ed piece analyses the earlier intentions of Apple's NeXT accusation in an a rumored project known as Red Box- to give OS X users full Windows compatibility nativly inside of Apple's OS.

The one area where MS has Apple by the balls is Mac Office. If this comes to fruition, then that threat no longer exists. If MS stops development of Mac Office, Mac users could just run the Windows version....until MS finds a way to "break" this.

very interesting and exciting read. Would be the last piece of the puzzle to convince me to switch

so now apple is making their own version of windows? what is the point of that? how long before it gets a start button and a registry? how long before the Mach Kernel is abandoned? how long before apes take over? how long before i switch to linux? oh wait, i've already done that.

That would be awesome if its true, but also just as easy to shoot their foot too. If it was true however that would be enough to get me over period.

i sure as hell hope not. I am trying to get the funds together to buy a current G4 iBook before they go and break everything with Intel. If this were to be true it would destroy Apple. However, its a rumour like many other going around. You just wont know until "that day"

Don't jump to conclusions, think about this on a very basic level. Running OSX on your home computer, it might be nice to be able to load up any number of secondary and tertiary windows-based programs and run them natively. While everyone immediately thinks of huge standards like Microsoft Office suite, there are a number of small programs written only for windows that have huge value to existing industries and business. If apple is going to really remove all barriers to adoption, then this alone could really change hearts in corporate IT purchasing departments. This doesn't have to be the death knell for apple or windows development, just a side door to work with both.As stated above, we won't know until that day.
