majornelson.com.nyud.net — Some consoles are being bricked by Thursday's dashboard update. Issues range from freezing, red ring of death and VGA adapter malfunction. Microsoft isn't acknowledging the issue and billing $140 for repairs. The comments section of majornelson.com growing with more cases. Also: http://forums.xbox.com/8524389/ShowPost.aspx

What are you talking about? Microsoft are continuing to innovate with new and improved defects all the time. Their competitors appear to be struggling to keep up in this field.

The only thing i've noticed is a freeze....maybe 3 or 4 times since then

Yeah...add me to the list of persons experiencing freezing. I have had 3-4 Gears of War freezes, 1 dashboard freeze and everytime, EVERYTIME I play Lost Planet Multiplayer the box freezes. I tried clearing the HDD cache but this did nothing. Pretty disappointing. Yes, the system turns on and I can play music and video but if I try to play games they just freeze? Eck.

Oh, just wanted to mention that my 360 is NOT modded and it is not a launch system...and it is ventilated and all that jazz. Gotta be the update...

I just bought a 360 with Dead Rising and Gears of War yesterday afternoon. Took it home, hooked it up, and set up a Xbox live profile. Then started Dead Rising. Played for about thirty minutes and then the system froze. So I tried Gears of War and could make it through the introductory cut scenes. This is abysmal. I'm going to return it, but at this point I don't know if I want to exchange or just get my money back and wait for a Wii. The games looked great, but damn - Microsoft's rotten quality control strikes again!

Had my box for a year with a 11/26/05 manufacture date. It ran fine, no problems ( a couple glitch freezes here and there but no big deal, it is a computer ). I ran the update, played the Rainbow Six single player demo and presto freeze and 3 red rings of death. I then called MS and was given the run around. I hung up on the guy and returned the console for a replacement at Costco. Good news, the system was on sale and l got a $25 dollar credit back, the bad news, I lost hundreds of hours of saved games. I will miss my Oblivion character.

Because you only hear the people who's consoles have bricked. The minority can seem like the majority as long as they are a very vocal minority. I'm not saying that they don't have a right to speak out or that their dumb. But that's the way the world works.

Well, I have a 7 month old console, running on a VGA HD cable and it worked fine. Runs Lost Planet, Gears etc Great...

It is pretty strange (sarcasm) how MS (or Major Nelson in particular), has diabled any further comments about the Novermber 30th update affecting consoles on his blog. I guess they are tired of all of the complaints flooding in...it would be nice if they would issue a statement instead of hiding.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I just applied the new spring update that was released today and got the 3 red lights on restart. Looks like MS haven't sorted things out with updates.
