mcclatchydc.com — You hear it often these days: "America is turning into a socialist country." Gasp! But in the marketplace of ideas, I'm not buying the notion that we're all about to become socialists. To judge just how "socialist" America is, consider some data supplied by Thomas F. Schaller, a political scientist at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

oh no! so were not really a socialist country what is Glenn "nazi tourettes" Beck going to do now?And poor BillO, he loves to harp on income redistribution as one of the examples that the "secular progressives" (whatever that is)are taking over the country, but these guys are honest so surely they'll keep it fair + balanced.

Yes, private pay is at it's lowest when we have the highest unemployment levels in almost 30 years. Big surprise there. Wake up, this has nothing to do with Socialism, it has to do with rampant out of control Capitalism bordering on Corporatism.

There's more to it than that. There's not just one kind of Socialism as it exists above and below the center line socially and left economically. Venezuela is an example of Authoritarian Socialism. Scandinavian countries use a form of Socialism that avoids the Authoritarian aspects. This is commonly known as Democratic Socialism or a Social Democracy. The problem with Venezuela is the Authoritarian aspects suffer from the same failings as unchecked Capitalism, a concentration of power by a minority. The difference being that in Capitalism/Corporatism the concentration occurs among the private business owners while in Authoritarian Socialism, the minority holding the most power is the government.

Nah: just doing right by one another. Stop being so defensive, conservatives. No one is out to get you. hey don't even know you exist. Have a brain, eh? Meaning what exactly. What are you afraid of?
