cnn.com — "An unnamed North Korean official was quoted as saying today that his country could launch a nuclear missile, a day after Pyongyang said it tested a nuclear device. The world is lining up against Kim Jong Il, with even longtime ally China saying the test claim harmed relations." Read on

All China has to do is turn off the food supply and NK will die. However China won't because they will have to deal with the refugee flood.

>> Is there a scenario you can envision that you would think Bush>> did the right thing?I see four scenarios:1. Negotiate with NK through diplomacy, which requires actively participating, not telling outher countries to deal with it2. Military invasion (after all, he _DOES_ have WMD's, admits to it and has threatened the U.S. and other countries)3. Pressure China and Russia (if they still do) to stop giving monetary aid and trade with NK4. Infiltrate NK, make strategic choices and provide disinformation or faulty technology (this was done during the Cold War to great effect)But I imagine there are plenty more.At least be proactive about solving the problem.>> Pressure Iraq? That's unilateral and evil. From what I recall, there were weapons inspectors in Iraq and Saddam was denying any WMD's... which turned out to be true. On the other hand, NK has been consistently shouting that they wanted to and have now developed WMD. Can you spot the difference? Are we supposed to be scared of what we dont know, instead of what we do know?>> Push for multi-lateral talks with NK? We should have bi-lateral talks.Yeah... stay the course. Even if it ain't workin. Just stay the course.>> I just wonder who liberals will blame when Bush is gone. Oh that's right,>> they'll just keep blaming Bush while becoming less and less relevant. This is largely cynical, because1. You were probably bitching about Clinton when he was in office, so you are likely a hypocrite.2. You are imposing a suggestion that one should not be allowed to criticise Bush, because any criticism of Bush is apparently a sort of psychosis.3. You are creating your own fictional future, where you have already decided what will happen, and using this to base your opinions of the present and _justify_ them. You are, in effect, trying to impose thought censorship. If you are going to say something outrageous like this, at least back it up with facts.

If we can't fight a war, then we should cut back on our military and let China take care of this. Is that what we really want? Be reasonable, we don't have to "give every person in Mexico citizenship" - that's pathetic. If Bush doesn't screw up his diplomacy, we have everyone else on our side. Victory should be easy and maybe we won't even have to fight if the show of force is sufficient.

Fact check: The Korean war ended in a cease fire fifty-three years ago. The US pulled out of the Vietnam War thiry-one years ago.

Maybe you should be the Emperor of Antartica instead.

And is a Pop CUlture freak and loves Members Only Jackets. Maybe the fashion police can stop him?Seriously, keep going diplomatically, follow China's lead. NK with either fizzle out or get pissed and go to war and China will simply not back them. All support for NK will be gone and they'll find themselves on the wrong end of a can of Nuclear Whoop-Ass. My money is China will not back them and Lil' Kim will just sit down.

Kuwan,Your's is the first post in this thread that assigns blame where it belongs, that is, with the leadership of this country since Kim Il Jung took power. Blaming the President currently in charge for events that have nothing to do with his policies is foolhardy and dangerous. Both parties have failed miserably when it comes to NK. Both parties in the Executive and Legislative Branches for the last 15 years (including GB da 1st) have glossed over the issue hoping that it would come up again under someone else's watch. Now it has and we need a united front against a menace this big. If this hadn't been an election year, there may have been a chance for that, but nothing will probably be done until after the elections. If Kim had any sense, he would have waited to test a nuke until after the elections. The Dems were on a roll and most likely would have taken both Houses in November (still might at that). Now, NK has handed GB da 2nd a ready made issue to hang the "Who do you trust to protect the country" slogan on. Too bad as it's about time for some leadership changes anyway. Also too bad that it would be the Dems as they are just as bad as the Reps.

"An unnamed North Korean official..."REALLY CNN? North Korea is boastful if anything...if they were going to do it, they would announce it without using the US's version of skewing the truth with the media by using 'unnamed' sources.
