gizmodo.com— Apple announced that there will be no SDK for the iPhone, essentially sealing off a vast majority of the gadget's potential as a revolutionary device.

Web 2.0 and AJAX is plenty. In fact, it's more than plenty -- it's brilliant. Every major company already uses those technologies and has developers for them, and as was mentioned in the keynote, this solves the problem of version updates.Say what you will, but the iPhone doesn't need an SDK. Web 2.0 and AJAX is a better idea, and it is revolutionary, hence the reason the net has been swarming with it lately. The only thing I'm really unhappy with regarding the iPhone is the lack of Flash support. That's a real let-down, but that's also the reason I intend to wait until at least the second generation to make a decision on whether or not to get one.
@ aaronm67-Almost any decent gameEh, fine. Point taken.-Filezilla (IMO one of the best FTP clients there is)Transmit (IMO one of the best FTP clients there is)-Autocad There are other CAD programs but yeah, none quite stack up to Autocad. Autodesk is being a bunch of jerks about porting it too.-CloneCD/CloneDVD/AnyDVD (I'm not sure if there's an alternative to DVD burning on a mac)There are TONS of DVD ripping and burning programs for Macs. MacTheRipper is a very versatile ripper. DVD2oneX offers a whole DVD backup package (rip, shrink, burn). Popcorn will shrink DVDs ripped with MacTheRipper. Toast can burn DVDs of any file you want. There are loads of apps to make and burn DVDs for free.-Alcohol 120/Daemon ToolsMaking and mounting disk images is built right into the OS. You can also use Toast or any other software package.-Most AVI-> DVD convertersHandbrake Handbrake HAND. BRAKE. It's better than any Windows tool out there, except maybe the Windows port of Handbarke.-Winamp (iTunes isn't an alternative to this)Well, iTunes is way better on Mac OS than Windows, but if you insist not iTunes, Audion is very nice.-uTorrent (there are other torrent clients, but uTorrent is the best I've seen)There are tons of OS X torrent programs. The only one that can match uTorrent feature for feature is Azureus, and that's kinda bloated. However, for all my torrenting needs, there is Tomato Torrent, Bits on Wheels, the standard client, XTorrent, Transmission... the list goes on.
Handango has 500+ apps for Windows Smartphone, and that's not including all the independent apps and freeware. You ought to be able to find something useful. If you were really concerned about apps, though, you should have bought a PocketPC phone. There are over 10,000 apps available.
Maybe they just haven't finished (or haven't started...) developing an SDK and a compiler for the iPhone...They might want to make it perfectly secure, according to Steve Jobs's fear for security
What if I'm in the middle of nowhere and don't have cell service? I won't have access to my "apps." With my Treo, I have the option to install stand-alone "off-line" applications that I can use anywhere, anytime.

Uninstall ALL applications from your computer and try using only widgets. Get back to us on how that works out for you.
