sgknox.com— Has Sony gone mad? Prominent adult movie producer Digital Playground (site) says it is forced to use HD DVD instead of Blu-ray, because Sony does not allow XXX-rated movies to be released on Blu-ray.

I don't even buy porn, and this decision alone would make switch from Blu-Ray to HD DVD, if I was in the market for one. I am truly surprised by Sony not learning from their own history. The days of a company owning: format, content and distribution are over. Sony did not have to ban porn, they still could have been 'family-friendly' if they just ignored.I don't think the issue of 'not having porn on Blu-ray' is game-breaker for me. What is, is Sony's idea of controlled media-content. In some ways, I don't truly understand on how a company can provide a Linux distro on one hand and ban porn on the other. (Really, I do understand why- it is so stupid...)Amazing, how Sony can produce a superior format (BR) and an arguably-superior game machine (PS3) and yet still possibly lose both fronts.
@ michaelb1I'll remember that next time I have a girl over that insists on watching porn.. "Oh, sorry, I only have bluray" as she grabs her keys and leaves.
I'm pretty sure the world's economy would sharply suffer too. It's a 60 billion dollar industry and has tens and millions of workers in the United State alone. Just imagine the porn industry and it's demise on a worldwide scale, that could lead to a worldwide depression!
I think Microsoft is preparing something big and nobody seems to notice... Yet it's out there already: WMV-HD. With WMV-HD, you can watch HD even if you don't have a HD player or an HDTV... and you can watch it as soon as now! But where these guys are geniuses, it's with their strategy. They're not trying to promote the standard, they let the porn industry do it for them. In less than a year, all porn videos will be encoded with their new HD codec, and as the codec is also used to distribute High Definition videos on standard DVDs(!!!), people will play back their clips on compatible DVD players (either blu-ray or HD-DVD players) and on their computers (with standard DVD players!). The net will be the real battle ground. I already found free HD clips to download! and it's amazing. If you're not afraid of extreme close ups, have a look on this site <a class="user" href="http://www.18closeup.com/tour.htm">http://www.18closeup.com/tour.htm</a> (the clip is hidden on page 2 of the tour),you will see by yourself how msft is going to win this battle....

The Blu-ray format was jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association, which does include Sony, but also Apple, Dell, Phillips, TDK etc.<a class="user" href="http://www.blu-raydisc.com/general_information/Section-14009/Index.html">http://www.blu-raydisc.com/general_information/Section-14009/Index.html</a>I doubt Sony alone is in any position to control the format in this way, really.

you obviously don't know the power that porn can do for a format war.
