Because my company has a policy against Wi-Fi for security reasons. There are no access points in range of my desk.

Honest question:Is ANYONE ELSE as concerned about the screen scratch/smudge issue as I am? I was surprised this wasn't mentioned in the article.I mean, the iPod has an entire sub-market of third party companies dealing solely with this issue because it was such a problem. What happens when a device is designed to be touched constantly on a surface that, as far as I can tell, is similar if not identical to the iPod's?

I have 2 CONCERNS and I really appreciate this article and taking a deeper look from another angle. Thanks.#1. My biggest concern is the 2 year contract from Cingular. I've read that Apple is already working on an iPhone 2. Are you telling me I have to wait 2 years to get a new iPhone? Apple moves products really fast and I don't want to have 2 year contract and upgrade to a iPhone 4 and miss 2 & 3 because of a contract with Cingular (and their horrible service in my area.)#2. I've learned my lesson with Apple ... NEVER BUY 1st GENERATION Apple Products... Consider yourself warned.Battery life, power/speed and storage are the biggest reasons why you just don't. Look and the 1st iPod, Titaniums, and now 1st MacBookPros.

brundlefly76: "1xRTT is NOT as fast as EDGE, its about HALF the speed of EDGE. Its just a little faster then GPRS. EDGE: 100-130kbps1xRTT: 50-70kbps"Bulls**t. I don't remember ever getting below 80kbs on speed tests in a 1xRTT area, and I routinely get over 100kbs. EDGE might be slightly faster, but they're roughly equivalent in everyday usage. EV-DO blows them both away in terms of speed.

I am hoping that Apple's contract contains some performance guarantees. I don't think Jobs wants a 3rd party being able to kill the iPhone because of s**tty service.

I want to know if it will work with my icarkit ( the thing at icarkits dot com ) it hooks my ipod up to my car no static and track control from my stereo and steering wheel controls, it also charges it, It would be sweet if I could drive my car, listening to my songs, changing the songs via my steering wheel buttons, charge my phone, and not have to carry an ipod!!! If anybody has an answer as to whether the iphone will work with these car adapters please please please let me know

It's too bad there isn't a mechanism that would allow, after the fact, to properly rate the importance of an article once it's been exposed as a complete and utter waste of pixels. Almost every article of this sort (pre-release iPhone bashing) was not only pathetic and sad at the time it was written, but, worse, shown to be even moreso once the iPhone was released, and subsequent software and hardware upgrades came along. And this is from the same crowd of jackasses that constantly claim the NEXT Windows will be BETTER! The iPhone changed the entire game. Everyone incapable of realizing that decided to write an article to expose their own lack of vision with respect to a device they never even held in their hands. And now these sad articles are enshrined as a tribute to the failed and myopic imaginations of tech losers so accustomed to regular mind numbing s**t from the likes of Microsoft that they didn't realize the world was changing around them.
