forums.nintendo.com — Given the 2X speed of the Blu-ray drive inside the PS3, installing the 5GB of Ridge Racer on the hard drive would take 9 minutes to complete. What ever happened to plug and play? Isn't that the point of videogame consoles?

So sad and patehtic. Sony gives users an OPTION. You can either have it EXACTLY the same way that the 360 and Wii will have, which is numerous smaller load times that interrupt the natural flow of your game, or the ability to load it all at once while you go and do something else for 10 minutes.Yeah...it is terrible to give someone the OPTION of doing something different than the others, or to do it THE SAME.And yeah, it is long becuase it is 5 Gig. So go f**king play Pac Man if you don't want to wait. Small games won't take very long.

@WhereAmI It will use a 2.5 HDD, the same as the 360 and laptops.

Marked inaccurate, install is only optional to reduce load times.

^ digg parent up ^9 minutes is FUD. The most probable situation is that while it sits as 5GB on the hard drive, it's actually compressed on the disc.

You don't have to install it. But you can if you want. There's a hard drive there, why not (optionally) use it? Empty hard drive space doesn't do you much good, so if you have 5GB lying around, why not use it to accelerate load times?

Install is optional, article is inaccurate. Simple as that.
