You must not have built a computer before, once you have the parts and the software ready it only takes a couple hours to have the whole thing up and running, maybe three hours depending on OS installation time.
A big problem for HP is that they have missed that initial surge. Dell had the guts to take the risk and they gained the most, their costs have probably already been covered by the fact they were practically a monopoly for the time when everyone was out buying.The rest of the market will be consistent and steady (maybe steadily increasing). Any company coming in now will have to take a longer term risk, there is no possibility of a quick recovery in second.
